With 2014 in full swing, the EWB-NY ATDT is building on the successes of 2013 with some new opportunities to contribute your expertise to short term projects around NYC and the world.
Our first opportunity is an Engineering for Change (E4C) Design Challenge from All Ears Cambodia. The organization tests hearing and provides treatment and hearing aids to a community of 14 million Khmers. All Ears Cambodia works for free, providing healthcare under the wing of more than 50 aid agencies and four public hospitals. They need help with two problems his clinics face: How to calibrate their audiometers, which test hearing, and how to dampen the noise from the street during hearing tests.
The second opportunity is related to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. We are collaborating on a 1% project with BKSK Architects to build a new, sustainable home for a family impacted by Sandy. ATDT will provide cost estimator support during schematic design to help guide design decisions based on cost and feasibility, as this project has an extremely tight construction budget.
